Tactical EMS Training
Camp Rilea, Oregon
May 20-24, 2002
The week of May 20, five members of ODMT attended the EMS - Special Operations course at the Camp Rilea military reserve on the Oregon Coast. In addition, two members were present as instructors, and the team commander served as an evaluator for the final exercise.
The course presented many aspects of Tactical EMS (TEMS). TEMS is the medical support of tactical law enforcement operations. Team members received training in medical protocols, specialized equipment, tactics, and safety when operating in potentially hostile environments. The training will be especially useful during future deployments when the team is asked to support federal law enforcement agencies as part of medical strike teams.
